Roofing Around Commercial Rooftop Equipment
An equipment curb is where a continuous roof surface becomes a vertical connection. The membrane, flashing and equipment all need to work together. Tonganoxie Roofing Co helps building owners start with the roof condition and the work around it.

Why equipment changes the roof detail
HVAC units, pipes and other equipment interrupt the roof surface. A curb raises the equipment above that surface, and flashing joins the membrane to it. Loose edges, damaged material or an incomplete transition gives water a route into the assembly.
The visible leak below can be offset from the roof opening. Water moving within insulation or beneath the membrane means the roof needs more than a patch placed above the interior drip.
Repair the roof and coordinate the equipment
A compatible repair restores the membrane connection and the flashing around the interruption. If wet insulation or a damaged substrate sits below it, those layers change the work. Sealant around the curb does not remove retained moisture.
Equipment that must be disconnected or moved introduces HVAC, electrical or other trade responsibilities. That coordination belongs before the roof is opened, alongside access for materials and protection beneath the work.
Plan for building use and drainage
Entries, loading routes and occupied areas influence material handling and debris removal. Drainage also needs a continuous path around the equipment to drains or scuppers. Work sequencing should account for temporary openings and weather protection.
An isolated failed flashing can suit repair when the surrounding roof remains suitable. Widespread moisture or attachment problems can move the decision toward replacement.
