Tonganoxie lists reroofing among work requiring a building permit and inspection. The city says work cannot begin before the permit is issued. The property jurisdiction matters; a mailing address alone does not establish city authority.

The city's fee schedule effective January 28, 2026 lists a $50 reroof fee and says ice and water shield is required. That municipal fee is separate from roofing labor and materials. The applicable placement and roof details need to be resolved for the actual project rather than inferred from the short fee entry.

That newer source hierarchy supersedes the older city page listing 2012 editions. The city's permit application page also says hired contractors need a city business license and roofing companies must provide state registration.
Inspection and repair questions
The public application page establishes reroof permitting but does not name a roof-only repair exemption or every inspection stage. A small repair's permit treatment and the required inspection sequence need confirmation with the city for the actual work. The guide does not turn that missing detail into an exemption. The roofing plan needs to account for the permit before work begins and for the inspections required during the job.
